HAPPY 24TH KADAYAWAN!

by: Glacy Ann Bantolinao

The Kadayawan Festival is an annual festival in Davao city. Its name derives from the friendly greeting "Madayaw", from the Dabawenyo word "dayaw", meaning good, valuable, superior or beautiful. The festival is a celebration of life, a thanksgiving for the gifts of nature, the wealth of culture, the bounties of harvest and serenity of living.
A celebration that interfaces the three aspects: tribal; industrial and; arts and entertainment. The festivities are highlighted with floral floats, street-dancing competitions and exhibits that showcases the island's tourism products and services.
The full cooperation of the Dabawenyos makes the festival successful. It’s very amazing that everywhere there are many people love to witness all the events. August 22 when I decided to go to the mall to see an artists like Coco Martin, Gerald Anderson and Enchong Dee, but sad to say I fail to see them. The presence of the people in the mall decided me to go home immediately because even in distance in far away distance all Ican see was the head of the people. Maybe it’s not really my lucky day to see the artists that I admire.
I’m glad that there’s no accident happens. God really spare the Dabawenyos. Let’s continue cooperate each other for the development of this city. Pray for the leaders to that God gave them enough knowledge for every decision they made. And most of all let’s thank God for the abundant blessings that He gave for this city. HAPPY 24th KADAYAWAN TO ALL!

Ambition Never Lost

By:Glacy Ann S. Bantolinao*

A…a…ant. B….b….bag. C….c…..cat 18 years from now when I grow up I want to be a teacher.

I still remember the words that I utter when I was in kindergarten. Yes, being a teacher, that’s my greatest ambition. To teach the children how to read and write and teach them to sing, to recite a poem that’s my passion.

But as I grow old my mind is changing. Reminiscing my elementary days I was one of the representative to compete as feature writer in Filipino and luckily I won 4th place in regional level. I discover that I loved writing. This experienced encourage me to be a journalist someday.

At my secondary level my mind focused as to what course I’m going to take that was to be a journalist. Slowly my passion in writing developed, because of some workshops. Until I reached my tertiary level, guess what I am currently enrolled as AB-Masscom student. Happiness, Discouragement, Excitement I can’t express the right word to feel being a .masscom student.

What about my greatest ambition? Being a teacher? Today I am currently a tutor of a grade six student. So you see I still have the passion to teach and I know I can use this when I am in the outside world, A stepping stone for me as masscom student to enhance my ability to talk to other people.

Still Proud of You

Beautiful inside and outside that’s the character of being a Miss Universe. When there is beauty pageant the Philippines has always its candidate to present the country.

This year’s candidate was Pamela Bianca Manalo. The Filipino shows their all out support for Bianca together with her family. Bianca dreamed to make the Philippines proud of her. Bianca tried her best to impress the judges and she was really supported by the Filipinos. From the parade in Bahamas Island Bianca really showed out, her smile and her friendly face makes the Filipinos more proud of her.

But in every contest someone wins and someone lose. Bianca never reached that far in top 15. But the support of the Filipinos to Bianca continues. Being competed with 85 contestants in different country was a big achievement.

It’s alright Ms.Philippines Bianca Manalo the Filipino still proud of you.Everyone loves you and continue supporting you. Congratulations and Always keep your feet on the ground. A person is only beautiful, when their own beauty, is reflecting on to others.

Someone...

Retchelyn Barcelo

All of my life, I've been searching for someone
Someone who will really love me for what I am ,
And not for what I have .
Someone who will understand
And accept me through all my mistakes in life
Someone who will make me better person
And who will bring out the best in me
Someone who will make my life complete
And always make me happy
Someone Who will truly love me .

Ang Pag-ibig...

Ang pag ibig
Retchelyn Barcelo

n
Maipadama lang ang nararamdaman
maging san at kahit na kailan pa man.

Hindi aalamin ang pinagmulan at nakaraan
tatangapin kahit kasuklam-suklam
Minsan ay sinisiraan at pinaghiwalay
subalit sa kabila ng lahat ay nagtatagumpay.

lahat ng tao ay nagmamahal
Walang kinikilala at kinatatakutan
masunod lamang ang nararamdaman.

Ang pag-ibig ay walang pinipili
Bata at matanda ay minsan nagkamali
dahil sa pag-ibig walang tinatangi
Mapaisampalad lang ang taong pinipili.

Thank you for the Friendship!

By:Glacy Ann S.Bantolinao*

Friends are special people. We can't pick our family, and we're sorely limited in the number of them at any rate. Society and mores (and often our own conscience) dictate we select a single mate. But our friends can be as diverse and infinite as the adjectives we choose. Our friends, in a very real sense, reflect the choices we make in life.

Thank you for always being there when I need you. Through ups and downs of my life you’re there. Your advices for me that made me stronger and gave me encouragement I thank you for that. When I am sad you know how to comfort me, discouragement, heartaches you’re there lifting me up. You’re knacks of joke that sometimes aren’t that funny just to make me smile I thank you for that.

Someday when our world will apart I just want you to know that I’ll never forget you. The lessons that I learned from you will always be in my heart. Thank you for the joy that you shared, the moments that were like a drama princess who cried with each other thank you for that. Thank you for the gift of friendship, for your shoulder to lean on and for your helping hand. The world may offer me lots of things but no one can replace you. Thank you for the gift of friendship.

As what the lyrics of the song says if I had only one friend left I’d want it to be you.

*glacy really value and loves her friends. I love you my friends…

"Missing Her"

by Rose Marie Jumawan

In this crazy big world of studying mass communication, it's a fact that you can't find a true friend in just one click. If a person is so good to you doesn't mean she/he is a true friend. Don't give 100% of your trust to anyone, remember to leave at least 60% to yourself. Our world is full of competition. Not just in a academic field but also in other matters that concerns you and the people around you. What I'm saying is just a reminder. Because I myself is a victim of me having a soft heart.
I've known this friend of mine for almost 4 years. We have a lot of things in common. We shared laughter's and tears and give advices to each other if we feel like losing our track in many ways. Though I am not that vocal, I considered her as my best friend. I shared everything to her, even things I kept from my family. We acted as if we are sisters..She's so good to me..I mean, she's the best. But not until I found out the betrayal she did to me.
My initial reaction upon knowing every details of it was “stunned”. She kept on talking but I could hardly hear what she's saying. I kept on telling my self that “no!this isn't happening...Not her..God please wake me up.”.
Days passed, and I already absorbed everything. I felt the pain and began to hate her. I was overwhelmed by the pain that I'm feeling that I started to cursed her. How I wished that I never met her. She's a traitor..Self centered and greedy.
She wanted to talk to me but I refused. Because every time I saw her reminds me of the betrayal she did. And I swear to God that I will never forgive her.
I know that it's not clear to her that the reason of this pain is not because it involves a “guy”. I don't give a damn about that guy but the issue was her loyalty as my friend.
And now, it's been a while since that incident. I can still feel the pain whenever I saw her walking on the hallway with her other friends. But, I am not sure if the pain that I am now feeling is the same pain I felt before. It's as if my heart is aching not because of what she did but because of the friendship we had that has gone to waste.
I missed her company. I missed her so much that I want to give her a big tight hug. I'm now ready to forgive her but I'm sure that the memory of the betrayal she did will haunt me..FOREVER.

I understand that human as we are, we commit mistakes. In 20 years of living my life, I can't deny that I've done terrible mistakes that caused so much pain to somebody. And I did all the things I can just to asked forgiveness. That's why I understand her.
We could still be friends again. But I'm afraid I could not give her the trust I gave her before. I don't know if we could renew our friendship. I'm sure everything will changed.

I've learned my lesson on trusting someone so much..And I thanked her for that.
I missed you tabz!

GMA last good meal; bad meal for Filipinos

By DAISY T. DESING

Scrumptious dinner vs. bland dinner!
Before…………
The president of the Philippines Gloria M. Arroyo met the president of United State of America Barack Obama for the first time to talk about the relation of both countries. After the conversation, Arroyo got disappointed because Obama did not include Philippines on his Asian visit. Despite of that feeling, she is still hoping that Obama will visit the Philippines sooner or later.

After……………..
The president’s trip ended through a dinner at the most expensive restaurant in New York with her entourage. The La Cirque French restaurant was known for the “dignitaries, celebrities, artists and the New York social elite”. They spend $20,000 for their lavish dinner that ran up a tab nearly a million pesos equivalent for Philippine money.

Source of information…..
The New York Post article reported that Ms Arroyo and her entourage racked up a US$20,000 bill at the French restaurant La Cirque in New York as they wound up the President’s trip.

Filipino critique……..
Filipinos government officials, private sectors and the ordinary people react when they heard this issue. A while ago Filipinos went into mourning for President Aquinos death, the story broke out when the New York post about Arroyos dinner last August 2, 2009.
It was a big NO…NO… for some Filipinos when they spend big money for dinner for their satisfaction. Money should spend it wisely especially in the wake of global crisis that has been taking its toll on the country’s long-suffering poor. They should explain to the public because they are the ones who are being put in a bad light for the people to be enlightened. This is not only for their own protection but also for the country and for the people. It may be an issue that will divide the Filipino again.
The president should spend big amount for those people who are in need especially those who are victims of typhoon and reeling for poverty, any growing hunger. Even if it is not public money, it is very imprudent act. They are obliged to explain and detail all the facts for Filipinos be updated and aware about the said issue.
They are eating an expensive food but did not think that the Philippine is suffering from different circumstances. Arroyo should look back her country I she and her entourage deserved to eat foods deliciously.
It is okay if it is their money but it is questionable for Filipinos to spend that much for a single snap of dinner. Her assets and liabilities will not be a good basis for her expenses.
Hopefully, the truth will prevail at the end so that justice will still be useful for this country.

JOBLESS FILIPINOS ARE HIGHER: WANTED TO BE THE NEXT?

by: Danessa Adino Lazaga

The unemployment rate in the Philippines today is very alarming since it is increasing as time passes by. As our population grows higher, the number of graduates increases, and there are no enough jobs for them to be employed, then, poverty rate is still rising. Imagine, the unemployment data from the January 2009 Labor Force Survey confirms the country’s descent into greater joblessness due to the global crisis and accumulated domestic economic weaknesses.

According to the data of IBON Foundation Inc., a research group, there are now 4.3 million Filipinos who are jobless today. The IBON Foundation estimates that some 2.5% of the working age population, 15 years old and above are considered part of the labor force, which implies an additional 1.5 million jobless on top of the 2.9 million officially reported, for a total of roughly 4.3 million jobless. The number of jobless could be even much higher if, as is likely, labor force participation rates this year become bloated by even greater numbers of discouraged job-seekers.

The latest unemployment report underscores the deep problems of the economy: its weakened internal ability to grow, create jobs, provide incomes, and cope with the crisis. This also underscores the hazard of relying on export-oriented manufacturing instead of a solid and expanding base of domestic demand, such as would be immediately created by a strategy of genuine asset and wealth distribution. The country faces greater joblessness in the coming months, and the worst is yet to come especially with the government’s inadequate response to address the country’s severe unemployment.

I just hope that before they spent too much for themselves or for other things, they should think first on what could be done or what could be the possible solution of the numerous economic problems in the country today. There are alot of Filipinos who are suffering from hunger and most especially from poverty. And maybe, just maybe in no time, we will no longer be a third-world country, but the last world country.

PAGPANGATIK UG PAGPANGHIMAKAK SA USA KA RELASYON

by Danessa Adino Lazaga

Dili nagkinahanglan ug 'psychic power' aron mahibaluan kung aduna bay pagpangatik o pagpanghimakak nga ginabuhat ang imong hinigugma o 'partner'.

My Wonderwoman

By:Glacy Ann S. Bantolinao*

A woman who has a good heart to everyone and has a helping hand to the needy. She’s always being there the time when I needed her most. She always thinks what’s best for me and has undying love for me.

Since I was a child she takes good care of me. She watches over me when I’m sick. She teaches me how to read and write and taught me to respect other people. She’s a witness on how I grew into a person of worth value.

From my kindergarten to my tertiary level until now she watched over me. I realized that she is really my wonder woman. When I have problems regarding my studies and some problems in my love life she gave me advices. When my heart is really in pain, she comforted me. No doubt she’s still my wonder woman.

As to my studies she provides all that I want. Despite of my shortcomings she still there continues supporting me. No words can express how thankful I am to have her in my life known to be my wonder woman.

She taught me on how to be independent and have a fear in God. She keeps reminding me that be strong in the Lord whatever the taste of life may come on my way. I may not be the one she expects me to be but I’m trying my best to be what I am. I may not see her everyday but she’s always on the list in my prayers. I love her so much and hoping that one day I could replace what she gave……more than that she gave.

I keep wondering why she’s always being there, why she was the one who provides all my needs, why she takes good care of me, why she knows me from head to toe. It’s because my wonder woman whom I cherished and love so much was my MOTHER.

The greatest gift that either woman can give to the mother daughter relationship is honesty. Self honesty, and honest self evaluation, can go a long way in the healing process. If you are a daughter who intentionally tells those little white lies about your life to make your mother’s blood boil under her skin (of course you wouldn’t do something like that) then evaluate it, admit at least to yourself, and change it. If you’re a mother who constantly nags at her daughter to find the right man—or woman—(of course this isn’t you) then try admitting it at least to yourself, change it, and celebrate her accomplishments the next time you speak with her. These are the most basic, most elemental steps toward opening the door to a much better relationship with the most important persons in your lives.

*glacy a caring and loving daughter really cherished her family.

Time to plant more TREES

By:Glacy Ann Bantolinao*
Throughout history humans have found it desirable to construct cities along streams.  Streams are sources of water for consumption, agriculture, and industry. Streams provide transportation routes, energy, and a means of disposal of wastes. Stream valleys offer a relatively flat area for construction. But, human populations that live along streams also have the disadvantage that the flow of water in streams is never constant. High amounts of water flowing in streams often leads to flooding, and flooding is one of the more common and costly types of natural disasters.
Here in davao city when the strong rain hit us after a "sudden" heavy downpour brought flashfloods. Base on my experience I can see jeepneys and motorcycles trapped along the street because of the high level of flood. Students and other people have no choice but to stoop down to the water for them to come home early. These alarming situations brought us lessons that we should take care of our environment and should plant more trees to prevent flooding.
The most affected barangays are Talomo Proper, Lizada, Crossing Bayabas, Los Amigos, and Calinan Riverside. But the government never fails to help the families who are victims of the flood. Let us be aware of the situations we are facing right now and let’s find ways to help prevent the cities from flooding. Time to plant more trees.

3am! Significance of it!!

Irene dela Cruz

Many people no longer believe in a world that is outside of reality, but for me, I know that there is a spiritual world that exists..
A world that no one can ever imagine and a world that no one,,, ever,,, wants to visit.. I myself have had several experiences and most of them with demonic entities that scared me..
Far as I remember, I had this earliest demonic experience when I was about 18 in my new apartment..One night, I was in bed with my partner trying to go to sleep when I felt something slap my face..My eyes popped open and there was nothing ..I looked clock and it was exactly 2:50 am, suddenly there was a smell that seemed to only appear at night and the best way to describe it was the smell of something that is burning or a smell of overheating appliances..Every night for almost a year, the smell would appear after midnight. I was with overwhelming feeling of fear and feel like my heart was beating out of my chest as soon I smelled it...
My room is big and light was off.. It was already 3 am when I was frightened by something whispering my name in my ear..Suddenly I fell asleep but not a real sleep..But a real nightmare for I was really wide awake..
Everything was there and it seemed to be a real dream.
Suddenly a bloody girl was sitting in front of me saying I'll never wake up again..She was choking me and the feeling was,,, she
was trying to invade my inner-self..Trying to take my soul out of me..Trying to POSSESS me!!
I was shouting,,saying prayers! But useless! I was near to death..Suddenly, I was able to open my eyes and the bloody girl wasn't there anymore. I jumped out of bed and was scared crap- less.. I had never experienced actually seeing something bloody and scary.. I reached my partner and told about everything..,According to her,, I was really in deep sleep and everything was in silence..Nothing happened! I looked at the clock and it was exactly 3:10 am.. I knew it! the bloody girl was real, it wasn't only a dream or a nightmare.. I had 10 minutes of encounter with the girl which I believe a demonic entity..
The next day morning I went to a near internet station to make some research about spirits and demons and guess what, I found some statements of Father Richard More, the priest who exorcised Emily Rose ( Anneliese Michel ) who said to be possessed by six demons..I watched the film of exorcism of emily rose (Anneliese Michel), a true to life story and one of the statements of Father More was about demonic forces and attacks..According to the priest, all kinds of demons are indeed existing in our world and they choose no one to possess..no matter how religious or demonic the person is..But shockingly, there was a statement of Father More that happened to Emily Rose which happened to me too.It was about 3am.. according to him, demonic forces are present only every 3am..Why? Because it's the reverse of 3pm,,the time of jesus' death, jesus being the son, or messenger of God and therefore, it would make sense that 3am would be the time for demons..3 am is the exact opposite of 3pm and demons are the messengers for satan, the exact opposite to jesus..From this, 3m has become known by exorcist as the bewitching hour..When demonic activity is at its highest!

See? very much related to my experience! Remember? I was still awake 2:50 when suddenly I fell asleep when the hands of clock reached 3am and there,, I have seen the bloody girl in a demonic image!.... After,,, I was able to open my eyes and upon seeing the clock, it was already 3:10 am!
the encounter was only between 3am and 3:10am..It was real..Believe me!

Wanna see Emily's face when she was invade by six demons?
here!!

Emily's Coffin!

Now,, it's your turn to judge!

I am a firm believer that there are really demons out there sent to destroy us,,,, but never forget that if there are demons, there would always be angels to protect and defend us..

And now,,,,, Irene is working to open her third eye!

Waiting for the Right Time

Is it so hard to keep on waiting? Why there are some people who do things that shouldn’t be done yet? Why there are some who do not wait for the right time?

These are just few questions that popped up in my mind when I hear and read the words premarital sex. I have friends who engaged in this kind of pleasure and they willingly share their lustful experience. I listen and laugh with them but I know that there is something guilt in the deepest part of their minds. I also had an experience when I cried with a friend when she told me about her first and how she felt so sorry for herself.

In our generation, sex is not sacred anymore. Sex is just for fun. With the peer pressures, pornographic materials and intimate scenes that are shown on television and movies, one can presume that it’s okay to have sex before marriage. It’s hard to believe that couples as young as 13 can go to bed together without even fearing the consequences.

They say the first time is the unforgettable one yet they felt the most horrifying experience. They felt that their insides were being exposed and hearts left unattended. But the second they are into it, they crave for more thus, consider sex as part of their system.

Another friend of mine once shared that after they have done it, she felt that she was really attached to the guy. She described her guy as her life and felt really vulnerable. When they broke up, it was awful and it really hurt her even more when she found out that the guy was dating other girls.

It is really awful and painful when your partner just leaves you. How much more is the pain for when you already gave everything including your flesh and yet your partner just walked away from you? No offense meant for the boys but when it comes to premarital sex, the girl is more at risk than the boy.

Forgive me if I am wrong but I think that most of the time the boys are the ones who initiate to have sex. They would tell the girls their favorite cliché: “ I love you so much. If you love me, make love to me”. Then there will be promises of church bells and to live forever with their girl. I am not saying that guys should be solely blamed. Girls can say “NO” and “I am not ready for it”. But what girls do is that they let the boys do what they want thus, harder for them to stop and be carried away by their passion.

According to my friends, it is so hard to say no especially when they went too far. Too far doesn’t only mean intercourse. Too far is craving the physical more than the spiritual. Too far is when you think of how to satisfy your sexual desires rather than how to maintain the relationship. Too far is when you don’t want to stop.

Premarital sex has many consequences. The few minutes of pleasure are definitely not worth a lifetime of guilt. Pregnancy and STD’s are not the only risks. Some say that the greatest consequence is longing for real love and that they will never find it.

I still believe that sex is sacred and is meant only for married couples. I am proud to be a virgin. I can say that I’m lucky and thankful for my parents’ reminders and God’s wisdom. Some say that virgins at my age are old-fashioned and overly conservative. Well, I don’t care because my virginity, as I always say is going to be my wedding gift for my husband. This may sound difficult because I may engage into premarital sex. But I have to keep in my mind that waiting for the right time and the right person is worth it.

“TECHI” addict

Here they are again…

Nine months to go and it’s time for us Filipinos to cast our votes. Politicians are starting to knock into our doors. They are trying to be very good and present to us what they have achieved and conceal their broken promises.

Throughout history, politicians have used various methods, such as political rallies, speeches and political advertising to achieve their primary goal – the winning of votes. However, politicians have proven that the use of political advertisements is the most advantageous to convince the voters.

One of the regular television advertisements is Mar Roxas’ “Lalaban Tayo” wherein Mar is driving a tricycle and hears the complaints of the people. Another is Manny Villar’s famous “Sipag at Tiyaga” ad which is always reminding us that Villar came from the poor society and how he became rich and famous. Jejomar Binay brags what he has done in Makati City where residents can have free medicines, free education, free hospital fees, free movie passes and the like. They have been using their money to establish their positive images.

I’m sure that Roxas really planned that his marriage with Korina Sanchez will be set next year in order to gain much popularity. Sipag at Tiyaga of Manny Villar are not enough to be like him – one of the richest men in our country. Binay boasts that Makati is thye perfect place to live in. Makati as we all know is progressive with or without him because it is the business and commercial district of the country.

Campaigns are allowed 90 days prior to the elections for national positions and 45 days for local positions yet there are politicians who have regular television advertisements that serve as nationwide campaigns since last year.

Politicians are already preparing for the 2007 elections. It is so disappointing because they disregard the necessary things to do for our country. Politicians begin to concentrate on their presidential ambitions.

The best thing that these politicians can do is to be true to themselves. Why don’t they use their money by helping the poor? The only ones who benefit from the political ads are the television network executives.

As voters, let us make it sure that we won’t be blinded by the glitz, glamour and spurious advertisements and press releases of the politicians. We want genuine, service-oriented, noble, full of good ideas, morally upright and God-fearing leader. Let us cross our fingers that the next leader would do his/her work not only for his/her personal interest but for the betterment of the country and for the Filipinos.

The writer really hopes that we will vote the deserving leaders. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! Long live the Philippines!
